Classic Swedish massage

The Swedish massage was developed by Per Henrik Ling (Swedish professor of sports medicine) in the early 19th century, as a healing method
by improving blood circulation in the body. Ling developed six basics, using the massage technique:
Stroking – Gentle movements on a designated area
Deep massage – pushing and rolling the palm in muscle areas.
Friction – creating friction in order to heat the tissue.
Rhythmic tapping – with the help of the back of the palm, in the muscles and shoulder blades.
Pressing – Using the thumbs directly on the muscle and on the side of the spine.
Vibration – rapid oscillations of the hands to release and warm the muscle.
These elements were assimilated over the years together with similar Dutch massage techniques, and connected to what is now called: “Classic Massage” or “European massage”. Today, the emphasis of the Swedish massage is on the psychological and spiritual aspects of The treatment.
